Summertime BUG F(LY) OFF Spray

BUG F(LY) OFF SPRAY
BUG F(LY) OFF SPRAY

Homemade Mosquito Repellent

Summer is upon us….and so are the bugggggggsssss!

Let’s stop being their dinner!

If you’re like me, I’ve spent my whole life unwillingly donating blood to these pesky creatures, and walked around during the summer looking like I was deep into the throws of a bought of chicken pox because if it.

FUN FACT:

It’s only Female mosquitoes that bite people.  Blood serves as a great source of protein for their eggs.  Male mosquitoes don’t consume blood at all.  Crazy huh?

Female mosquitoes have a long piercing mouthpiece they use to pierce the skin to consume our blood. Some mosquito bites are harmless although still uncomfortable, but others carry dangerous diseases.

If the uncomfortable aftermath left by their bites aren’t enough, mosquitos also carry some dangerous diseases. A list of these diseases transmitted by mosquitoes includes Malaria, West Nile virus, Zika virus, Yellow fever, Dengue fever, and Chikungunya.  If you experience flu-like symptoms after being bitten, seek medical treatment immediately.

Meanwhile, the goal is preventing bites is versus treating them.

Mosquitoes need water to breed, so removing sources of standing water around your home will reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home.  There are also options at Home Depot/Lowes for treating water features, like fountains, etc. around your home to prevent breeding areas.

The following steps can help prevent bites when outdoors during the summer months:

  • Use screens or nettings
  • Cover your skin when outdoors
  • Avoiding wooded and grassy areas (especially around water)
  • When in mosquito dense areas avoid wearing perfumes and bright coloring (apparently it attracts them)

Repellents:

Deet and Picaridin are two chemical repellents that are effective.  However, they both have mixed reviews on the safety of the chemical.

That was about the time I discovered that Essential Oils work as a mosquito repellant.  It blew my mind when I found that my blend performs BETTER for my family than any store-bought product.  I have tweaked my recipe and it’s literally perfect!

Here it is just for you and your family! EEEEKKKKKKK!
