Life has been crazy this year. Alcohol is fun. Holidays are fun..or maybe they just add more crazy? Either way, you’ll most likely want to partake in some holiday cheer!
Here’s how to raise a glass with some responsible macros. They say ‘drink responsibly’ right?
Before we get to the recipes, let’s check in on some tips about holiday booze…
1 – Track Your Booze Like A Boss
Alcohol has been coined the 4th macro, so here’s a quick macro reminder to keep things in perspective and give you the deets on how to track the booze.
- 1g of Protein = 4 calories
- 1g of Carbs = 4 calories
- 1g of Fat = 9 calories
- 1g of Alcohol = 7 calories
You can log alcohol as carbs or fat, but NEVER log it as protein.
Protein is a non-negotiable in your macro count. Protein makes you pretty!
Do this easy math…then make simple adjustments to your food to accommodate a little booze without wrecking your goals
- Alcohol calories / 4 = grams to log as Carbs
- Alcohol calories / 9 = grams to log as Fat
But wait, when you look at an alcohol label they don’t always tell us the calories from the alcohol! You might get a calorie count on a seltzer, beer, or cider…but in case that info is missing, I created some quick cheat sheets for you!
2 – “Hi, I’m water! Remember me?”
Here is my shameless plug for hydration. H20 has to happen!
Before, during, and after the booze, drink your water.
No matter how much fun we are having, our body views alcohol as a toxin, and as soon as we catch a buzz our body is already working to process it out of our system.
This is the part where you say “thank you body!” and chug some water.
I highly recommend adding in some minerals to replenish your electrolytes.
Grab my favorite HERE so you have it on hand for the morning after.
3 – Shut The (Refrigerator) Door!
When you open the bottle, close the kitchen!
Bad, bad, bad decisions happen in the kitchen once we catch a buzz and we want “just a little something”
Let’s be honest – when you have a little booze, it’s not the bag of carrots that you grab for a snack!
Drink your water and go to bed.
Now that we set the rules, I want to share some of my favorite recipes that are a lot less naughty and a little more nice! Add these to your holiday party list! Cheers!
Cheers to a great holiday season!
XOXO
Lauren
